Current Church Opening Times 2026

Fridays and Saturdays from 10.30 am – 3 pm

Sunday Eucharist at 9.30 am followed by refreshments. All welcome. The church is closed on Sunday afternoons.

There is a short service in the Lady Chapel most Wednesdays at 10 am

Beggars Belief cafe

Sit down with a hot drink and homemade cake while soaking up the beautiful surroundings of the church. Beggars Belief cafe is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 10.30 to 3 pm throughout March. Look out for future updates from April

Manufacture, Design & Imagery

To celebrate our 160th Anniversary we are delighted to welcome Dr. Jim Cheshire (Associate Professor, Lincoln School of Humanities & Heritage) to St Martin-on-the-Hill. He is an expert in medieval stained glass windows and will talk about the windows by William Morris in our Pre-Raphaelite Church. 

Admission is free

The Church and Cafe will also be open from 11am – 4pm. 

The cafe sells home-made light refreshments including soup, quiche and salad and a variety of delicious cakes and tea and coffee, all at very reasonable prices.

Heritage Open Days

13th -22nd September 2019

Exhibitions on The German Bombardment, Scarborough in December 1914, cyanotypes by Artist in residence Angela Chalmers, and a display highlighting Oliver Sarony, (Victorian Photographer) plus daily tours of the Pre-Raphaelite Church. 

On Friday 13th September at 7pm local author David Lewis presents The Art of ‘One Day in December’. An evening of poetry, drama and readings to celebrate the launch of his book ‘One Day In December’ commemorating the legacy of war poet Wilfred Owen and the Scarborough bombardment.

We will have two art installations by Angela Chalmers  ‘The Futility of War’ linking with the ‘One Day in December’ bombardment theme and ‘Spiritual Gardening’, inspired by the history of the church and benefactor Mary Craven.

Contemporary Art & Craft Fair

Please come along to our Contemporary Art & Craft Fair to be held at St Martin’s Church on Saturday 11th May 2019 from 10am - 5pm

The fair will provide a fantastic opportunity to buy affordable original art.

We look forward to welcoming you and a variety of local professional artists and makers that will present their work for sale inside the beautiful surroundings of the church.
